As you may know, graduating seniors and other students who aren’t returning to Brewster Academy next fall will have their Google account suspended on June 30. If you want to save all of your Google Docs, Sheets, Presentations, and Forms, you have to share them with a personal Gmail account NOW so that you don’t lose them.

Google has two ways to do this through its Transfer or Download service:

Google Download will archive and download all of your data into a zipped folder that you can save to your hard drive.  You can then upload the files to another Email account, like Microsoft or Yahoo.

Consider using this method if you want to keep your YouTube videos, Photos from Google Photos, Chrome Bookmarks, Contacts, Google Keep notes, Tasks, and Your Google Maps.

Google Takeout Transfer will copy and transfer your Gmail and documents that you own in Google Drive My Drive directly into another Gmail account.   Consider using Takeout Transfer if you want to seamlessly move all of your email messages and Google Drive files into another personal Google Account.  It is easy to create a new personal Google Account if you don’t have one. This method WILL NOT transfer Google Photos or Google Docs that are shared with you, only the documents where you are the owner.

If you are not sure which option (Download or Transfer) to use, do them both – it can’t hurt!

Google Transfer   Click on the link and follow the instructions.

Be sure to move files from “Shared with Me” to “My Drive” before starting the transfer!

 Google Download

Click on the link above, select the Google Apps you want to backup and click Create Archive.  Depending on how much data you have, this may take some time.  You can choose the option to be emailed when the zip file is available.
