The same type of “Proximity” card and reader used to get into our buildings is now being used to securely release teacher generated print jobs on the Kennison Library Xerox printer/copier using software called “PaperCut”.

When a teacher prints to the Kennison Xerox, the print job will wait to print until you “release” it by touching your “prox” card to the reader located on top of the Xerox copier.

Software & Settings

The PaperCut software has been remotely installed onto your laptops. To verify this you should see this icon: Screenshot 2016-02-09 08.38.47.png in your menu bar at the top of your screen.

If you don’t have the “Kenison Library Xerox” copier added to your computer, open the Self-Service app on your laptop and add it from the “Printers-Faculty” category on the right.

Print a Document on the Kenison Xerox

Print a document as you normally would, but make sure to select the printer called “Kenison_Library_Xerox_Secure” of course!

Note:  The very first time you print to Kenison using the new system, you will be asked TWICE for your fac### credentials that you use to connect to the wireless network.

The first time you have to enter your credentials, we recommend that you check the “Remember this password in my keychain” checkbox. Your system will remember your credentials forever.

The second time you’re asked for your fac### credentials is for the PaperCut service itself. We suggest changing the “remember” setting to: “Until I logout”. This means that you will have to enter your credentials again the first time you print after restarting your laptop.

Once you have logged in, your print job will be sent to the server and you will receive this message indicating that your document is in the queue, click OK.

The job will be stored in the queue for 2 hours. If you do not make it to the printer within the 2-hour limit your print job will be deleted and will need to be re-printed. Note: you will be sent a warning with 5 min remaining.

Additional print jobs sent to the Library printer will NOT ask you to login again…that is unless you restarted your computer.

Releasing the Print Job and Picking up your Printout

OK, you’ve sent the job to the printer. Now you need it to actually print out! All you need to do is walk up to the Kenison Xerox Printer and put your “Prox” card close to the reader attached to the copier.  You should hear an audible beep and the light should turn green and your print job should begin.
