Forward & Previous Shortcuts

The following short cuts will help you navigate between open web pages in Safari & Google and also in your Gmail. We all use the “back & forward” icons at the top of a browser to go backward & forward in web browsers.  Instead, you can use Command Key Shortcuts or trackpad swipe gestures.

Let’s start with the Command Key options:

“Command-left bracket”  OR “Command-left arrow” will take you to your previous screen.

“Command-right bracket” OR “Command-right arrow” will bring you forward.

You may find this shortcut useful when reading emails. From your Inbox, click on an email to open it, then use “Command-Left Arrow” or “Command-Left Bracket” to go back to your Inbox.

These shortcuts are also useful when browsing a news web page or shopping online.  You can easily toggle forward and back to the main page.

Swipe Backward and Forward

You can also do this with “swipe” on your trackpad.  YES!  The swipe works for your Gmail too!

First, do you have swipe options enabled?

Open System Preferences>Track Pad

Click on More Gestures and review the options.

When you click on each option, you will see a clip on how it works in the window on the right.

Be sure to always check the menus of the apps you are using.  Shortcuts that work in one app may not work in another.
