Hello fellow peoples! My name is Sam Kiley and I will be a senior at Brewster this year, and I am also one of the Head Tour Guides at Brewster.
I’m here to talk about the summer I lived for the year of 2015. Such events include beaching it and enjoying sunshine, working in a local kitchen while making delicious food, and throwing down some 360 dunks in the lovely state of Kentucky. (The 360 part was a joke, but I mean I did play some basketball in Kentucky). So I will delve deeper into such events, and I appreciate you sitting or walking or whatever fits your fancy, while at the same time reading this.
The first thing I did upon the end of the school year was to head out to Martha’s Vineyard. This was certainly a vacation, and I appreciated the clear water, sea glass filled beaches and fantastic food.
I did this with my girlfriend, a fellow Brewster student and her family, and it was certainly a memory that I will not forget. I as a person do enjoy hanging out with homies, and in general having a good time. This is an excellent example of such.
Next we move on to the most fabulous part of my summer life. My summer job. I feel this necessary to mention because it is a very important part of my life, and as my dad says it certainly has helped me gain, “character.” I am a cook at this five star restaurant (jokes) and I make sandwiches, grilled cheeses, burgers and other fabulous foods. I have no picture of myself here unfortunately, because naturally I am a focused and incredibly disciplined worker (more jokes) but this is the nice view that I can appreciate while grinding and working hard.
Now onto the dunking part. Some fun facts. I do play basketball. I am 6’3. I have played basketball for a very long time. I can dunk 1 out of 10 times, so please don’t ask because my lack of “hops” is rather embarrassing. HOWEVER, my travel basketball team did travel to the
National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky and we came in the final eight teams out of over one hundred teams. So I mean, not a lot of dunking, but not too shabby, eh?

also went to Brewster.
And lastly, I worked at Brewster! A summer program that works with 55 teenagers from the United Arab of Emirates during the Month of August, and I was lucky enough to work recreation and generally chill with them. It was truly an incredibly experience learning about their cultures, traveling around New England and getting absolutely worked in soccer by them (I’m not very good at soccer… and they are very good). This was definitely one of the highlights of my summer, and it has motivated me to travel in the future and take on challenges. These guys taught me so much about the world and myself, and I’m so grateful for both the opportunity and the experience.
So that is my summer in a nut-shell. Mostly however, as I sit here a couple weeks before school starts, I cannot wait for my senior year at Brewster, for being the head tour guide and absolutely living the dream at the place that is Brewster Academy.
P.S I would say I definitely did adult things (working, working out, etc.) while at the same time following my dreams (making myself a skee-ball master, making fabulous new friends). Summer 2k15 was therefore absolutely a success.
Hope to see you soon for a tour of the Brewster campus!
Sam Kiley ’16
