The Arts blog is (finally) back!! We have been so jam packed with performing and fine arts events around here that this has taken a back seat to rehearsals etc.

So, here’s what going on in the Rogers and the Art Cottage!

HOWL killed it last week at the re-visit day all school. They performed ELO’s “Living Thing” and Maroon 5’s “Misery”. Joining them was Jenna Golden and the “Jack Sengstaken Experience” with Jack and Neil Craig on guitar, Jenna on lead vocals, and Issac Weiss Meyer on drums performing Eric Clapton’s “Layla”.  Jenna also accompanied Bryce Shipman on “Misery” with Bryce on lead vocals. Really an impressive, fun event!

We also celebrated the students who took home prizes in the Scholastic Art Awards. It was great to have a chance to recognize these amazing artists

Over in the Arts Cottage, ceramics is moving into last week for throwing on the wheel and handbuilding. The last two weeks will be devoted to bisque firing, glazing and final firing of ceramic work.

In Studio Arts students began the spring with working in wire. Our theme for the spring sculpture project is the ocean and creating creatures that would live below or above the surface.

And in Advanced Art the seniors’ hard work has paid off as they have been accepted to many of the top art schools on their list. It is time to make a decision, which seems almost as challenging as preparing the portfolio. We have a variety of things going on, painting, sculpting, throwing on the wheel, mixed media and drawing. Fun until the end!
